In 1997, Geologist Scott Wallace established a geo-environmental practice in Bend, Oregon for a large national engineering firm. The practice flourished with the addition of numerous multidisciplinary engineering, earth science and construction service professionals, and soon become one of the recognized leaders in applied earth and environmental science solutions throughout the Pacific Northwest. Wallace purchased the practice in 2010 and renamed the firm The Wallace Group, Inc.
Today, our team of dedicated professionals has accumulated an unmatched wealth of knowledge and experience in the fields of geoscience, environmental studies, special inspection and construction materials testing. Not only that, we’ve developed an enthusiastic company culture that’s focused on applying earth science and engineering principles to solve societal and natural resource challenges together.
Meet the geosystem experts and hard-working professionals who have helped build one of the Northwest’s most successful consulting practices.
I am an earth scientist through and through with more than 33 years of experience working primarily on environmental, geologic and groundwater resource studies. I founded Wallace Group in March 2010 on the fundamental philosophy that we work to live, not the other way around. Over the years, I have learned to apply my observational skills together with a knowledge of the Pacific Northwest’s geosystem, specifically the High Lava Plains and Cascade Range of central Oregon. I enjoy sharing this information with clients and incorporating that knowledge into successful projects.
It starts with hot coffee, the newspaper, and a hearty breakfast. Next up is any kind of outdoor or sporting adventure, followed by happy hour and dinner on the deck with friends or family.
I am an Oregon-registered professional civil engineer with more than eight years of progressive engineering experience and geotechnical expertise. I joined Wallace Group in 2015 and enjoy serving in a supervisory capacity to plan, develop, coordinate and oversee important infrastructure projects for private and municipal clients. My strong leadership skills and eye for detail ensure commitments to clients are met in budget, timeliness, and accuracy to develop important relationships with clients throughout the project and beyond.
It would include an exhilarating snowmobile ride in the morning, followed by some afternoon biking. In the evening enjoying a nice home-cooked meal and movie with my wife, capped off with some fresh and hoppy beverages.
I’m the new kid on the block. Originally from Michigan, I joined the Wallace Group in the spring of 2021 and love it so far. The people are great and work well as a team. My area of expertise is soil, concrete and reinforcement special inspections. I also have many years of experience in environmental consulting, soil and groundwater remediation, hazmat profiling and disposal.
The perfect day in Central Oregon would be mountain biking in the morning and whitewater kayaking in the afternoon. Multisport days are the best!
I am originally from Kelso, Washington and have been with Wallace Group since January 2020. I had five years of carpentry experience prior to joining Wallace Group and have gained valuable experience as a geotechnical field technician and special inspector with certifications in reinforced concrete and firestop penetrations.
Let’s keep this very simple – Golf, beer, bonfire, sleep outdoors
I started as a commercial Oilfield Bell/Saturation Diver and then as a Nondestructive Testing (NDI) Inspector, so I have years of experience in a wide variety of applications and environments (Oilfield, Pipeline, Construction, Marine, Industrial Fabrication, Military, Aerospace, Performance Sports). In the last 20 years, my roles have included Sales/Marketing Manager and then Operations Manager of a Testing Lab in Seattle, and the last 10 years at the Boeing Company working in the Quality Systems side of things for the new 777X Composite Wing Center. It’s kind of a unique background, but I like solving technical problems and working with people to find solutions.
One spring day, my brother and my best friend and I climbed up to the top of Mount Bachelor (before the summit lift) and sat for a while admiring the view of Elk Lake. When we finally decided to put our skis on and head down, we looked and there wasn’t a person on the runs, only a snow cat finishing up the grooming. We still all remember the longest “perfect” ski run of our lives with absolutely no skiers on the mountain, followed by a big plate of Nachos when we got back to town of course.
I’ve been with Wallace Group for five years and spend most of my time as a Lead Special Inspector on both large and small projects throughout central Oregon. Since joining the firm, I’ve earned multidisciplinary special inspection certifications in reinforced concrete, structural masonry, fireproofing, and as an ODOT Field Technician. I’ve enjoyed the hands-on experience and the opportunity to use my extraordinary communication skills (haha).
Hanging out with my two sons – age 23 and 11, when I’m not out on the golf course.
I’m a native of Central Oregon and have worked in the construction industry here for more than 20 years. I’ve spent most of that specializing in paving and excavation operations, as well as a wide variety of residential and commercial building applications. It has been a pleasure working for the Wallace Group for the past two years. Not only do they offer great career opportunities, they understand how important family is.
The day after a big snowfall headed to the mountains with my wife and kids to go skiing and snowboarding.
My experience includes asphalt, soil density, concrete, and aggregate testing. I recently received my asphalt mix designer certification and have the following certifications from ODOT: CATI, CATII, CMDT, CAgT, CEBT, CDT, and QCT. From the ACI, I have received the grade 1 field testing technician and the concrete strength testing technician. I work very well in a team setting and I am highly adaptable to different work conditions and situations.
My perfect day would be backpacking in the mountains with my best buddies and sleeping under the stars.
For a kid from Bend, how great is it to earn a Bachelor’s degree in geology, then be able to find work right here in my hometown, close to family? I’ve been with Wallace Group for about two years and love wearing multiple hats in both the field and the office. We have a close-knit group both in and outside the office.
Witnessing both the sunrise and sunset out on the river or a lake.
My background is in accounting and I pride myself on being detail-oriented and organized. When we first moved to Bend I was working remotely for another company, so it has been nice to work with some really great people and learn a whole new industry. I really enjoy seeing the projects we are working on around Bend and knowing that we are helping to grow and improve our community. I assist the business administrative manager with new project set-up and field calls from contractors, superintendents, etc. on projects who need to schedule us for inspections and testing.
It would probably start with a cup of coffee and ocean roll from Sparrow Bakery. Then a walk or run along the Deschutes River. Paddle boarding on the Deschutes River up by Dillon Falls. Finally, we would have some friends over for a fire and make pizza in our wood fired oven.
I brought my uncommon knowledge of earthquake engineering, slope stability, and engineered excavations to Wallace Group about five years ago. Today my expertise includes construction on volcanic soil and rock, soft soil sites, shallow and deep foundations, and forensic work. I love working closely with other local design professionals on a variety of ground conditions from soft soil to hard bedrock. There is a new challenge for every site and each project is unique. I have been a board member of my engineering honor fraternities, the San Francisco Geo-Institue, and now Professional Engineers of Oregon.
Taking my boys to one of the many lakes to swim and paddle board, bring our own picnic lunch, dig in the sand, watch them find insects and frogs, and finish the day off with some ice cream.
My 17 years of industry experience includes multi-disciplinary special inspection and construction materials testing in both the field and in the lab. In my seven years with the Wallace Group, I’ve enjoyed training and mentoring new staff members. My level of expertise allows me to lead teams and adapt quickly to changing work environments and solve problems on the fly. I also like how the size of the company gives me the freedom to implement change and make improvements, as necessary.
Early morning hike, followed by a lazy brunch, an afternoon on the lake, drinks with friends, and an evening at an outdoor venue with a good band.
I’m a Hoosier originally from Indianapolis. I joined the Wallace Group in June of 2019. I love the variety of work and relish being at the foundation of Wallace Group’s product. My specialty is performing strength testing for concrete specimens as well as compaction and gradation tests for soils and aggregates, probably because I understand the fundamentals of soil mechanics. In addition to being a good prioritizer and multitasker. I’m always available to assist field staff that need help or info.
Going climbing, riding bikes to a brewery to meet friends, cooking and eating outside on our patio, going on tons of walks with our dog. That’s pretty much every summer weekend here.
I have more than 45 years experience working in private and municipal engineering offices all around the U.S. My roles have included design, special inspection and quality control project management for large industrial and commercial projects. I specialize in earthwork, structural steel and welding, concrete, masonry, and mentoring up-and-coming inspectors. I’ve been with Wallace Group since 2012.
Planning the next unknown vacation or concert destination anywhere in the world.
For over 15 years, I have served the private, municipal, and federal sectors as a professional, specializing in environmental, geological, water resources, and geotechnical consulting. I joined the Wallace Group at inception and enjoy utilizing my technical expertise/experience to work with and assist clients in solving their environmental, compliance, remediation, and/or geotechnical problems.
Up at 5:30 am, on the Nordic trails by 6:00, back home to take my kids skiing by 8:00, then to the Dough Nut before the good stuff is gone.
I managed to escape from Ohio and bring my extensive field geology and mapping knowledge to Wallace Group seven years ago. I also bring experience performing geotechnical and environmental evaluations. I’m a Registered Geologist, AHERA Certified Asbestos Inspector and Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC).
Doing something outdoorsy with my wife Ashley.
I love organizing and managing all the little details – numbers, people, systems – to help keep all the aspects of the business running smoothly and to help make everyone’s work environment more comfortable and confident.
Either a long hike into the surrounding mountains to enjoy the wildflowers or kayaking on the Cascade lakes with time to read in the sun.
